Dr. Eileen Tay is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. Prior to joining The Orthopaedic Practice and Surgery, she held the position of Head of Division of Shoulder and Elbow at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Dr. Tay’s completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2005. In 2009, she became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, followed by obtaining her Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2012. Her training was completed with her acceptance as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2014.
To enhance her skills, Dr. Tay pursued clinical fellowships in institutions abroad. She underwent extensive training in shoulder surgery at Hôpital de La Tour in Geneva, Switzerland, under the mentorship of Dr. Alexandre Lädermann. Her fellowship included specialization in shoulder joint replacements, shoulder arthroscopies, and the management of sports-related shoulder injuries. Subsequently, she furthered her expertise in elbow surgery with Dr. Boris Hollinger at Arkus Sportklinik in Pforzheim, Germany, focusing on the treatment of elbow sports injuries, ligament reconstructions, elbow arthroscopies, elbow replacements, and complex elbow reconstructions.
Returning to Singapore, Dr. Tay assumed the role of Head of Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Ng Teng Fong Hospital. She is deeply committed to medical education and has served as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, where she received the esteemed Best Teacher award in 2019. Furthermore, she held the position of Associate Program Director for the NUHS Orthopaedic Residency Program, overseeing the training of Orthopaedic Surgery residents.
