Background

Dr Ooi graduated from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals in 1996. He subsequently obtained a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery and FRCS (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr Ooi’s subspecialty areas of training are foot and ankle surgery as well as adult reconstruction surgery. Common conditions managed by Dr Ooi include bunions and ankle sprains. As such, Dr Oi performs surgery such as corrective osteotomies for bunions, ankle arthroscopic surgery and ankle lateral ligament reconstructive surgery. Other surgical procedures for the foot and ankle would include radiofrequency coblation treatment of plantar fasciitis (chronic heel pain), flat feet surgery and management of diabetic foot disease and non-healing foot ulcers.

Dr Ooi has also conducted extensive research, which has been published in medical journals such as Annals, Academy of Medicine, Singapore and Singapore Medical Journal. Dr Ooi has been awarded numerous prizes, including First Prize for Best Research Paper Award 2008, Singapore Medical Journal; Top 10 Teacher Award for 2007-2008 in Tan Tock Seng Hospital; and Silver EXSA recipient for 2008.

As an avid sportsperson, Dr Ooi was Team Captain for St Joesph’s Institution Old Boys’ Association (SJIOBA) football team in 2005, member of the CoolJoes and SJIOBA Football team and ex-member of Old Rafflesians’ Association rugby team.
