Background

Dr Lim Ing Ruen is a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon. She is the first Singaporean Ent Surgeon to undergo fellowship training in Rhinology and Advanced Sinus Surgery in United States of America in 2003. Her fellowship director, Dr David W Kennedy, is considered one of the pioneers of endoscopic sinus surgery.

Achievements

Dr Lim Ing Ruen is a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon. She obtained her MBBS degree from National University of Singapore in 1995 and was awarded a 6 year specialist training position in otolaryngology in Singapore. Dr Lim then obtained her Fellowship in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in UK in 2000. She obtained the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Health to further subspecialise in the field of rhinology and advanced sinus surgery in 2003 at the University of Pennsylvania in USA. This is a one year hands-on fellowship where she was the first overseas doctor to be trained under the tutorship of Dr David W Kennedy who is a pioneer of endoscopic sinus surgical techniques in North America.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

In 2005, she was made a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore under the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists of the College of Surgeons of Singapore. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery since 2002, a member of the American Rhinologic Society since 2005 and a member of Singapore Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology since 2009.

APPOINTMENTS

Upon her return to Singapore in 2004, Dr Lim started an Otorhinolaryngology Service and spearheaded a Rhinology Service taking care of complicated sinus cases in Alexandra Hospital. Her hospital appointments placed her on the Operating Room Committee of Alexandra Hospital and on the Hospital Planning Committee for the new Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

Dr Lim’s clinical practice in ENT spans 18 years and involves taking care of all aspects of ear, nose, throat and thyroid conditions. Additionally, she specializes in advanced sinus surgical techniques including the use of balloon sinuplasty, advanced endoscopic sinus techniques and stereotactic computerized navigational surgery.
