Background

Dr Lim Chong Hee has more than 20 years of clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery. His clinical interests are in thoracic and cardiac surgery, implantation of ECMO and mechanical heart assist devices for heart/lung failure and heart/lung transplantation.

Dr Lim is appointed as visiting consultant to the National Heart Centre (NHC), Singapore. An active researcher, he is presently working to develop a bidirectional cannula for ECMO and minimally-invasive cardiac surgery. He had been involved in several clinical trials namely; the InteguSeal Protocol 100-06-0001, Merck Trial V710 and STICH (Surgical Treatment for Ischaemic Heart Failure).

Other than his clinical work, Dr Lim lectures in regional and international conferences. While serving at the NHC, he had contributed to the NUS Medical Faculty as Senior Lecturer and held the appointment of Adjunct Associate Professor with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, where he taught and tutored future doctors.

Dr Lim is a member of the Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgeons in the College of Surgeons, Singapore. There, he had held various appointments such as Honorary Secretary (2005-2009) and Chairman (2009-2013). He is also a member of the Singapore Thoracic Society.

Dr Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the National University of Singapore in 1990. Thereafter, he earned his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1994.

He furthered his training in cardiothoracic surgery at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, USA from 1999-2001 where he trained amongst the best cardiothoracic surgeons in the world. As of 2002, Dr Lim has been a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
