Dr Lai Jen Ming was accredited as a Specialist in Hand Surgery in 2018. He was appointed as a practising Hand Surgeon in the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) (2018-2021) and the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) (2021-2024) Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery (HRM) departments.

Prior to this, Dr Lai graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2008 and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) in 2011. He entered the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Hand Surgery residency program in 2012 and successfully completed it in 2018.

From 2018-2024, Dr Lai concurrently served as a member of Woodlands Health (WH) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he played a pivotal role in the setting up of a Hand Surgery service in an upcoming fully integrated healthcare campus while being an advocate for patient safety as a member of the hospital Quality Assurance Committee. During this time, he also served as Chairperson/Vice-Chairperson of the 2023 and 2022 Quality Day organising committees.

Together with his in-house hand therapist, Dr Lai provides both rehabilitative and surgical treatment options for:

  • Fractures of the hand, wrist, and forearm
  • Peripheral nerve injuries and neuropathies
  • Nail infections and deformities
  • Other hand and wrist injuries including lacerations and crush injuries
  • Infections of the hand, wrist and forearm
  • Trigger finger, De Quervain tenosynovitis (‘Mummy’s thumb’)
  • Cysts, tumours, and lumps of the hand and wrist
  • Arthritis of the fingers, hand and wrist
  • Sprains and other ligamentous injuries of the hand and wrist

 

Dr Lai has a special interest in the use of ultrasound to improve care by incorporating it for point-of-care (POC) ultrasound diagnosis, ultrasound-guided injections and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures like percutaneous trigger finger release. He also performs endoscopic procedures such as small joint / wrist arthroscopy and endoscopic nerve release.
