Background | I have been a member of the Department of Colorectal Surgery SGH since 1996. I did a year of fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida 2002. I was a Consultant Surgeon from 2004 and Senior Consultant Surgeon from 2008. I have served as Director of the Enterostomal Therapy Service, Director of the Transanal Ultrasound Lab and Director of the Endo-Lap Simulation Centre as well as Deputy Director of the Endoscopy Centre of SGH. I have published more than 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. I am also a reviewer on the editorial board of numerous journals. I am the current President of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Singapore. I have served as a member of the core faculty in the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Program and am happy to have played a role in shaping the syllabus for the colorectal Program. I hold concurrent appointments of Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and Assistance Professor with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medicine School. I have served as Organising Chairman of 2 major international colorectal conferences. I have also organised and conducted about 20 animal laboratory laparoscopic colorectal surgery workshops and end-anal ultrasound workshops for overseas surgeons. I organise simulation surgery training and endoscopy training for medical students and advance specialty trainees regularly. I have been invited by foreign hospitals to speak and perform live surgery demonstrations in countries such as China, Malaysia and Vietnam. I have a strong special interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. I do laparoscopic colon and rectum resections regularly and I have performed numerous single port (incision) colorectal resections. I am also one of the very few accreditated surgeons in Singapore for Robotic Colorectal Surgery, currently the most advance form of minimally invasive surgery. Of course, I do other common procedures such as laparoscopic hernia repairs, haemorrhoidectomy (stapler, conventional as well as transanal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation (THD)) and surgery for anal fistulae, abscesses and fissures as well. |
