Info | Dr Choo earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (UK) in year 2000. He then continued his specialty training in Respiratory Medicine and Internal Medicine at various institutions across the NHS Trust Hospital in UK. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), UK in 2010, specialising in Respiratory Medicine and Internal Medicine. Dr Choo practised as a Respiratory Medicine/Acute Medicine Consultant Physician at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, UK, before he joined the Department of Medicine, Jurong Health Pte Ltd as a Respiratory Medicine Consultant in September 2012. He was promoted to Senior Consultant in January 2017. Dr Choo was appointed Head, Division of Respiratory Medicine, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) from 1 January 2023 before he joined Raffles Medical Hospital between 1 November 2023 and 31.12.2024. He joined The Respiratory Practice from the 2 January 2025. Dr Choo was awarded with multiple service accolades from NTFGH between 2013 and 2022 as a testament of his commitment to clinical service excellence. In addition to the clinical appointments, Dr Choo contributes actively to the medical education and training. He was the Clinical Senior Lecturer of the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Previously, he was the Associate Program Director for Respiratory Medicine Senior Residency Program, National University Health System, Singapore between 2013 and 2016. His passion on medical education was not restricted to the medical profession, he was a supervisor to the Advance Practice Nurse (APN) clinical training at NTFGH. Dr Choo is a firm believer of continuous medical service improvement. He always strives to develop and innovate medical practices and services. He has committed to medical service improvement projects at NTFGH and served as the medical lead for the Clinical Practice Guideline Workgroup’s project on “Standardisation of care for asthma/COPD”. He was the lead for the ‘assessment of patient’ chapter, which is part of the NTFGH Joint Commission Institution (JCI) Hospital Standard benchmarking exercise between 2021 and 2023. Dr Choo was the Chairperson of the NTFGH Endocentre Committee between 2019 and 2023. His strong interest in the field interventional pulmonology sub- specialty has led to the development of advanced diagnostic endoscopy procedures at NTFGH between 2012 and 2023. At national level, Dr Choo was elected as an Executive Committee member of the Singapore Thoracic Society between 2015 and 2019 which enabled him to participate actively in promoting the knowledge of lung health and good practices among the respiratory medicine doctors in the country. Dr Choo’s clinic consultation service includes lung health and wellness screening, assessment of respiratory symptoms and evaluation of abnormal lung imaging (CXR and CT scan). He has the credentials to perform advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy (EBUS) and medical thoracoscopy. |
