Background

Dr Chong Choon Seng graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2004 and obtained his specialist qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013 and continued his fellowship in one of the most prestigious cancer centers in South Korea, Samsung Medical Center.

As a Senior consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery, his dedicated interest is in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) for colorectal cancer and advanced endoscopy. Beyond his vast clinical experience, he is also an instructor to fellow colleagues and juniors for courses in colonoscopic stenting, keyhole and robotic surgery for colorectal cancers and transanal total mesorectum excision (taTME) for rectal cancers.

Recognizing his work as an established surgeon and academic contribution, Dr Chong was appointed Associate Professor in 2022. In education, he has obtained many awards including Best teacher, NUH Excellence teaching and role model awards over several years. In 2018, he was awarded the Special Recognition Award and the Dean’s Honour Roll for teaching excellence. In 2019, he was awarded the NUH Eminent Teacher Award in recognition of his continual excellence in teaching efforts. Since 2019, he was also appointed as Assistant Dean to lead Continual Education and Teaching (CET) and continues to perform that role till this day.

In research, Dr Chong has published over 100 publications in the field of colorectal surgery and education. He sits on many editorial boards and is an invited speaker for many local and overseas conferences. Being a faculty member of the several international societies like ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCS) and Asian-Pacific Study Group For Gastrointestinal Surgery (APGIS), he continues to contribute to the teaching of surgical skills and knowledge across the globe.
