Dr Chong attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She graduated in 2002 and obtained her higher surgical qualifications (MRCS) in Edinburgh.

She completed her hand surgery specialist training at SGH and was accredited by the Ministry of Health as a specialist hand surgeon in 2015. She worked in the Department of Hand Surgery at SGH from 2009 to 2024 and was practicing as a senior consultant in hand surgery when she embarked on a new chapter in her career.

Dr Chong spent a year at the renowned Department of Plastic Surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Linkou) under Prof Fu-Chan Wei and Prof David Chuang, refining her surgical skills in reconstructive microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery. She obtained her Master of Medical Sciences in microsurgery in 2016.

Associated Treatments

In addition to microsurgical repair of nerve/ blood vessels and soft tissue reconstruction, Dr Chong has clinical interest in finger replantation, hand and wrist fractures, compressive neuropathy, tendinopathy, arthritis and finger/ wrist ligamentous injuries. She has special interest in endoscopic cubital tunnel release and wrist arthroscopic triangular fibrocartilage repair.

Publications

Her areas of research and peer-reviewed publications include functional tendon reconstruction and hand infection.

Associations

Dr Chong is active in health professions education. She held the position of Program Director for SingHealth Hand Surgery residency program and the Associate Program Director of the National Integrated Programme for Hand Surgery Residency Training where she oversees the Hand Surgery specialists training program in Singapore. She was awarded the SGH Scholarship for MS-PhD in Health Professions Education at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 2022. She is also active in undergraduate medical education, holding teaching appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and DUKE-NUS Medical School.
